It's a science fiction thing. Sometimes writers will describe a rabbit but call it something else, like a smerp. And then there's the reverse which is calling a smerp a rabbit.

Well. The fey that created my race basically used us as cannon fodder in a war. They didn't have the words "cannon fodder" but they used the equivalent.
