freewilling: (how much did you drink mister?)

(no subject)

Look -- ma'am -- I don't know what's going on here, if this is some kind of weird hallucination from being knocked out cold or some weirdo reaction to drugs at the er or whatever - but I don't have the time to hang around here. No offence but if this is actually the inside of your head, you should get help. And I have a promise to keep.

[Kid you have no idea.]

Nope. You're stuck here, I'm sorry. I've been trying for God knows how long.
failedparenting: (26s: waiting)

[He gives....himself a look. The kind that says "look at your life, look at our choices", but in a more appropriately manly way.]

You don't know how hard I've tried. After a while, you learn to roll over and accept it. It ain't right, but it's all you can do now.

[John just laughs. He's staring to get why people don't like dealing with his stubborn ass.]

Okay, keep telling yourself that, then. It's gonna do you a hell of a lot of good.

[So much sarcasm it stings.]
failedparenting: (20: lol)

[Not so much, no.]

Jesus, you don't give up, do you?

And which promise is that?

[Come on man, he's old. He can't remember that far back.

But that particular promise he remembers. He remembers making it, too. John can't help but smile.]

If you manage to get out, you do that. Take her somewhere along the coast. [He's beginning to get dangerously wistful, dragging up memories he hasn't thought of in years.] She likes the beach.

[Not creepy man, it's love.]

And make sure she gets a real wedding, too. Not some courthouse thing wherever you land this time. She deserves better than that.

Well, I don't know if you can do it different than I did the first time around, but you could try.

[It's surprisingly fun to creep yourself out.]

[Look into this face and despair, Johnny, because you don't age gracefully.]

Yeah, I know it's hard to swallow. Shit got bad after a while.
failedparenting: (02: We're pretty much screwed)

[personal profile] failedparenting 2012-08-23 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[He snorts.]

I wish. But you and I both know the war was already over when you left.

[But it really didn't matter then, did it? He wanted to go, so fuck everything else.]
failedparenting: (100i: Can I help you?)

The only one really worth shipping off to after that was in '91.

[He was too old and on wanted lists by then, anyway]

You don't want or need to know. Only that, if you get back, treat Mary like a goddamn queen. Love your kids.

[And he's not above punching a kid.

Well, himself really. But he'd rather not dwell on that particular psychological field day.]

Not enough. You get too comfortable, start going out for drinks with your buddies instead of staying home.

And then it'll rear up and bite you square in the ass.
