(no subject)

You can't-

[ There's fear in the girls voice as she speaks, shaking her head as she speaks ]

Katniss went, she won, they can't take me.

[ She doesn't want to go to the Games - she can't go ]

She wouldn't let anything happen.

[ bones doesn't know what's going on, but this kid is under extreme duress and he'll be damned if he didn't try to help. ]

No one's gonna take you, not if you don't want to be taken. Can you tell me what's happening?

[There are things Katniss will do everything in her power to prevent. Things she did everything in her power to prevent. Two words tumbled out of her mouth without hesitation, broadcast all over Panem. "I volunteer!" The only thing that made sense.

But there are some things that are out of her control.

And that scares her more than anything.

The fact that Prim is here... it's something she never wanted to see. Because existing completely at their whims is much worse than anything the Capitol could dream up. They can send you anywhere. Take anything away from you without so much as a blink.

As much as it pains her, as much as she wants to sugarcoat it, she can't flat-out lie to her sister. She deserves better than that. So, quietly--]

That's not up to me.

[She hates this. More than anything, she hates letting Prim down. For not being half the sister she should be. If she could, she'd find the ones pulling the strings, find them and send arrows flying in their direction without a second's hesitation. Anything to keep Prim safe from this.

But even if she doesn't know who her enemy is, she's been around long enough by now to know how her enemy thinks. And her, no, their enemy is ruthless. These games can't be subverted with a handful of berries.

A warning is the best, and the only, semblance of protection she can offer.]

They'll take you if they want to. [And I can't do anything about it. That hurts more than anything she's ever had to admit.

What she doesn't have the heart to tell her is where. That it's worse than the Capitol.]
