I've never been one for animal companions, but if I could... I'd want one almost like you.

[He spreads and closes his wings proudly. He tries very hard to be a good companion, but flying is hard when you don't have real feathers.

[His wittering becomes lower, a bit worried sounding. Oh is that ever a possibility. Not to mention Thetis might still hold a grudge and he's not certain a little owl would be off-limits to a goddess.

But there could be a good reason. He clicks hopefully. Are you on a quest by any chance? Maybe setting out to slay a monster?]

You could call him a monster, if you wanted to be dramatic.

[Fact is, Sherlock being "dead" and all, he could use a companion for his quest to bring down Moriarty and his web.]

[Bubo flaps eagerly. That's just the sort of thing he was made for!]

[Sherlock reveals something because, honestly who's Bubo going to tell?]

I've killed people, Bubo. I've never killed before until now. Killing, changes people.

[He rattles with concern. That may be true. But sometimes you have to fight your enemies. He gives a low hooting, almost like a real owl. Change needn't be for the worse as long as you fight justly.]

[When you break your oaths, or the bonds of hospitality or kinship. Or harm the innocent. He was forged and not hatched, but Bubo knows these things as if they were beaten into his golden plating. Maybe they were.]

[Sherlock is about to reply that he doesn't believe in any of that nor does he care. But, he knows Bubo will see through it - it's in Bubo's designs, isn't it? So instead, Sherlock changes topics. After all, "running and hiding" from such emotions is easier.]

[Or would it be owner? Relationships always did confuse Sherlock.]

[Bubo blinks twice, rapid as the change of subject. He whistles in answer. Perseus? Why, he was in Joppa the last Bubo knew. He and Andromeda are newly wed. They're planning to reclaim Argos - it's all very exciting!]

[He grins.]

And everyone lived happily ever after. That's how the fairy tales end, yes?

[He can't predict ever after, but he gives a pleased boop. They're certainly happy now, and he foresees them staying so for some time to come.]

[He does not sound sincere. But then, his own story ended with everyone believing he committed suicide, so he thinks he's got a right to be bitter.]

[Bubo agrees, but there might be something knowing in the tilt of his head at Sherlock. They're lucky, but there was a lot of suffering on the path there. Ammon says a happy ending doesn't always mean a happy story.]
