As for how vampires are connected to the slave trade, they were the ones to spread it. For to the vampire with no humanity, no empathy, what is better than a source of free labor and food?

So, your world has, like good vamps and bad vamps?

That is the idea yes. Some vampires use the way humans hate certain groups to try to more easily gain food as they've been all but run out of Europe. The discovery of America lead them to have greater access to food, the slave trade.

Now that it is abolished they try at every turn to bring about the same hate so certain groups aren't quite as missed in areas. Where as the group of vampires I am a part of still wants humanity to be free of such tyranny.
