Chores?... What kind of chores do you do?

Mostly just sweeping and tidying up after my master. He's so lazy!

I do that too. Sweeping and dusting and the dishes. Sometimes I do the laundry too.

Me too! Doesn't it bug you? Adults are all so irresponsible.

Sometimes it does, when I'd rather do something like paint or read one of my books, but... at least it gives me something to do. I get so bored back home.

I get bored, too. I was raised in the Kinzan temple. There's absolutely nothing to do there other than chores or listening to scripture... and all of the monks are hypocrites. They don't do a thing that they preach.

...though sometimes my master acts oddly. I suppose that's enough that I'm not always bored.

He sounds like a nice person. [ She smiles a little. ]

I live in a tower far away from anyone. Mother and me are the only ones who live there and she likes to leave the tower during the day so I have to find stuff to do around the tower.

He's a scatterbrain. Honestly. [But he smiles a little too before hiding it. He wasn't some little sissy.]

...you live alone in a tower? Really?

[ She nods her head. ]

Well... I made a new friend! [ She holds out a chameleon. ]

His name is Pascal. He keeps me company while mother is out.

Ah! Is he poisonous at all?

[Kouryu takes a step back.]

[ She thought she was more scared here. She wasn't even sure if he had pointy teeth or not! But he seems more scared now. ]

Pascal? No way! He wouldn't hurt anyone. Right Pascal?

[ The chameleon let out a little chirp and nuzzled against her hand. ]

He's... kinda smart, isn't he? What is he?

[Kouryu reaches out slowly to try to touch him.]

[ Pascal puffs out his chest when he hears being called Smart. Darn right he is Mr golden hair. ]

He's a chameleon! And the best Hide n Seek player ever.

Why d'you wanna do your chores?

Because if I don't then they'll just pile up. No one else around here lifts a finger.

[Kouryu giggles softly at Pascal's antics.]

He's neat. How'd you get him?

Well---just because! I don't want to be disrespectful to the one who took me in.

So you gotta do everything? Sounds like he's takin' advantage.

[ Pascal grabs Kouryu's finger with his hands and gives it a shake. ]

He came into my tower one day and we bonded.

He would never take advantage. I'm not like the monks in the temple so I'm not fit for the things they do. These chores are my means of staying. I'm not just going to sit around.

Just like that? Seems so simple.

[He pets Pascal's head.]

[ Pascal lets out a small chrip and nuzzles his hand. ]

I was lucky that he came to play with me.. [ Pauses ] Now it's our turn to play with you.

[little twelve year old Gojyo is going to light himself a smoke now.]

Whatever. If you wanna do it, I guess, not like it's any of my business.

H-Hey! Why are you smoking? You shouldn't!

[Kouryu doesn't understand how anyone could enjoy such a horrible habit, his master included.]
