Either find where I need to be or let me return to the white nothing again.

With each passing day that you take no action, I find it merely seems more like the never ending lukewarm existence I'd had enough of... before that time. Before my existence was jostled.

So please, make up your mind... or let me be.

[His gut twists painfully. Konzen knows what's happened ad why Kenren pushed them to leave him behind... now it was his turn.]

Touten had the code to the gate changed. It was a trap all along.

[He looks down bitterly, his hands clenching into fists.]

One of his me reported that both you and Tenpou...

[He can't continue, his fists now trembling with anger at his uselessness.]

The roof suddenly caved in... and just as I would have been crushed, I wound up here.

[See, he'd known the odds were against them before they even started their planning. He and Tenpou hadn't been optimistic, but they'd been damn determined to at least get Konzen and Goku out of there safely. If they did that much, dying would have been worth it. But even that had been impossible, it seemed.]

What about Goku? I guess getting him out would have been impossible.

[The Carefree General does care, after all.]

[But Konzen cannot respond, doesn't know how to respond, merely looking down and shaking his head. He doesn't know if Goku lived. He doesn't even know if he did. All he knows is that he tried. It was all he could do with his wretched immortality.]

[Kenren is all about taking care of other people, and seeing Konzen react like that, he won't push. He can deal with his own emotions later. It's easier, focusing on someone else.]

You know, I'd still say it was worth it.

[It takes him a moment, but finally, he looks up, his eyes gentle with weariness, but agreeing. His voice is soft when he speaks.]

Want a drink?

[There's not much else to do, is there? They can talk about it - he'll listen, if Konzen wants - or they can pretend to forget about it. Either way, drinking helps, and Kenren still keeps that sake bottle hanging from his hip.]

[Konzen regards the bottle for a moment, then nods, a smile lighting upon his features.]

I was hoping the next time we drank it would be under those blossoms of the lower world you spoke of... but I suppose this will do for now.

[Just going to sit down, then, producing two sake cups and filling them.]

I was looking forward to that. It would have been funny to watch you fighting off wasps.

[He'll sit down next to you, Kenren.]

Hmph. The scents I wear don't have that much essence that they would attract insects, unlike the drinks you carry with you.

[Konzen, it's bad enough you're okay with admitting to it.]

[He'll smirk just a little. Very manly, Konzen.]

Wasps and I get along. I don't bother them, they don't bother me.

[Keeping up appearances is very manly.]

[Or are the scents just to cover up the smell of sweat from the exertion of walking across the room.]

I wouldn't even know where to start. There's always something going on somewhere. And they know how to throw a festival, unlike the birthday parties we get in heaven.

[because they can all agree the emperor's parties are boring in a way only heaven can come up with.]

[He wears high-heels for just suck occasions as this. Your balls are not as safe as you think if you try picking up this prissy God.]

Don't call them parties. They're so dreary and lacking in appeal that I can't even muster up the effort to be sick of them.

[Festivals, huh?]

What about the lower world's festivals?

[That's not even playing fair. And he wears heels because he wants to be a girl, admit it.]

It's like any other day in heaven, except with more people.

[all the festivals! Kenren likes to sneak down for them.]

In the lower world, they make them to be fun. With food everywhere, games Goku would seriously love, dancing, parades. Hell, when they hold speeches, it's even more boring, because everyone's so desperate for it to be over since there's so much to do.

[They elevate his stature and give him poise. It has nothing to do with his resolutely male identity. That and he has nothing better to do than primp, apparently. So boring. What is his life.]

Hooh...?

[Konzen listens quietly, genuinely excited by the images now flashing before his mind's eye. A busting place filled with people, all of them laughing, singing and dancing. Good smells of food and drink abound. Konzen finds himself smiling.]

I wish I'd found the will to live sooner. Maybe I would have been able to see one.

[Even so, he holds out his sake glass for more.]

What else?

[This uncharacteristic want to hear about the lower world might just be a guilty pleasure... but when you're five seconds from death in your world, why the hell not?]
