Winry... [ A bit of a grin. It's been a while since he last saw her in Central and it's good to see her, even if he feels an inward wince of guilt at leaving her. ] Heh, at least. And you'd never believe it. Crazy place doesn't even follow the law of physics.

What does it mean when someone has a pliant wand made of - what was it? Made of phoenix feather and hornbeam?

[ Oh, that's good... okok ]

It's, uh... [ Scratches the back of his neck. ] Some weird magical school.

[ Yes, he knows exactly how stupid that sounds. ]

....What? Ed, you never have believed in anything like magic. [But then, some of these 'games' can be pretty weird and crazy. Winry knows this from experience.]

Well... a couple of things, I guess. Phoenix feathers tend to be more rare of the usual wand cores 'cause they have to be given willingly and phoenixes are pretty rare as is. They tend to be pretty temperamental, but if they align with a person, they're really loyal. Hornbeam's the wood, a short kinda hardwood tree from the Birch family. But sometimes they're grouped with hazel. Anyway, the wood is usually paired with someone with a lot of passion, who tends to be, er... obsessive. But at least the wood tends to absorb the owner's honor code.

As for the pliancy of a wood, that usually represents how willing a person is to bend under pressure or not. Pliant can mean the person's a bit more open minded or less stubborn.

Yeah. I know. Bunch of crap. Shouldn't be possible to do transmutations with little stick of wood.

Yeah, the people behind it all make it sound like some kinda exact science, and even if it does have some coincidental relation to people's personality, it's not really scientific at all. But whatever. "Wand chooses the wizard" or something like that.

I prefer using my hands and not a stick with some feathers in.

You got it. And they wear pointy hats, robes, and fly around on broomsticks. Al's pretty good at flying, actually.

Place is called Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Have a huff as he digs it out of his pocket, making sure gloved fingers cover the words scratched into the wood. ]

Alright, alright. Here. Walnut, phoenix feather, eight and a half inches.

Oh. Mun has a muse from that. It still seems....strange to imagine you and Al there though. Don't go getting too many detentions. [She's about to ask about his auto-mail but...would he have it still, or would it have been tampered with or negated with the magic somehow?]

[ A half-smirk, half-grimace. Turns out, yelling at Snape on his first day in Potions hadn't been such a great idea. Snape took his over-reaction of being called a beetle a little too literally.

And he totally has his automail still. Refused to let Madam Pomfrey replace it with magic for... totally not sentimental reasons. ]

But before you ask, I'm mostly keeping out of trouble. 'Pparently, the old man's showed up recently too.
