[Of course ice, these are SHIELD agents, they don't visibly emote except when they do.] She does, doesn't she? She's trying to be very nice about the whole thing.

[Pause. Because he really means this.] You did good work out there.

[Exactly. And Natasha reflects that pause back to him because it's appropriate for her to do it if he is....going to go there.]

I did my job.

[And you did yours.]

I think we all did. Rocky start, but that's what we get for not testing ahead of time.

The cost wasn't worth it.

[She says it completely straight-faced but the words entail...a whole bunch of regret that she isn't even going to try to feel. That was more Clint's area anyways.]

Sure it was. Better me than a single mother on her way to pick up her kids at soccer. Would have been a lot worse.

And look at it this way, I don't have keep an eye on Stark anymore.

I think we could all use one of those.

When you take vacations, does Stark actually go with, because that doesn't strike me as a particularly useful vacation.

It's worse because Coulson wasn't Stark or the demi-god or even Banner. He was SHIELD. He was a coworker.]

There are business trips which he turns into vacations. The vacations that turn into business trips. The last-minute vacations which always end up going bad, somehow.

But once in a while he gets it right.

Once in awhile doesn't sound very bad at all.
