[A radio comes to life, and you can hear a British voice coming through. Sam is a bit upset.]

Okay. Okay. [A few rustling noises.] So let me see if I'm understanding this correctly, yeah?

You're not actually Runner 5, you've just been listening in on our transmissions - which makes you different from a spy how, exactly? - and you think that you can "play" me on the internet, which may I remind you doesn't even exist anymore? Right.

Clearly, we need a psychiatrist at Abel nowadays. Pure delusion.

And don't try and tell me you've seen the real Runner 5 around here somewhere. It won't make me feel any better. Also, you might want to try doing more than seven Missions before you pull stupid stunts like this. Keep slacking off and the zoms'll get you before you can put this plan into action.

And what's this about not being able to decide what I look like? I look like myself, not any of these pretty boys you've been searching.

[Crackle, crackle, Sam. Guess who's coming in over the airwaves loud and clear? You might not be able to see it, but Runner 5 here's got the biggest grin in the world on his face right now.]

Why Mr. Yao! What would Janine say if she caught you goofing off over here? -Actually, we'd both be in hot water, wouldn't we? But considering that mess with New Canton... yeah.

Haven't seen any zoms yet. Lots of strange people, though! And all of 'em have the same people we do. These "mun" dispatchers or whatever.

[There's a momentary pause in Sam's ranting, and then he finally gets it.]

Runner 5? That you? Of course it's you, what am I saying?

No Janine, no zoms. Small miracles, I guess. You holding up out there? ...Wherever 'out there' is.

[Oh Sam. Runner 5 can't help but laugh.]

Well it ain't Runner 8, that's for damn sure! Damn.I sure missed hearing your voice, Sam. Glad to have a friend around.

I'm holding up okay, I suppose. Been going out on runs with the girl who's my mundane. She's kind of slow, but when the zooms show up, we both book it for dear life. Other than that? 'S boring in here. Nobody's sending me out into obvious traps. But after... well, yeah, that's something I can live without.

Missed you too, 5. I was halfway convinced I was going crazy in this, er, "headspace" I think she called it?

Glad you have someone to keep you company on your runs. This one's slow, too, but getting better. She's at least faster than the undead can shamble, which is the most important thing, right?

Yeah, 'cause if the zoms get 'em, you and me? Poof. Gone. So I figure we're giving them a friendly little bit of motivation. And not the Runner 8, "thinly-veiled-death-threats" kind of way. [Still not happy about her being such a jerk to him originally.]

-Plus. Out here? All the cake rolls you can eat.

Ah, but what would our beloved 8 be without her unique method of inspiring others?

Cake rolls? Man, what I wouldn't give for- No. Wait. Not doing the "What Food Do You Miss Most" game. Those two DJ impersonators play that one all the time.

I dunno. Probably a little less tense for one. -Nah, I kid. She might be a bit prickly, but I'm glad that 8 has my back.

[Runner 5 splutters.] What, you mean Jack and Eugene? Oh God, remind me never to play that game with them, then. I miss ice cream enough without them adding to the list.

The mun seems to think they're hilarious. They tend to comment on the most inappropriate tracks on the playlist.

Ice cream is a good one. I've been feeling partial to baked goods lately, myself. If someone could put the smell of fresh bread in a spray can, I swear I'd buy it.

[Pause.]

And I just said I wasn't going to play, didn't I? See how well that worked out.

Could be worse. The last run my mun and I went on, all of the music was ironically appropriate. It got really eerier as things went on.

[Insert shit-eating grin here.] Gotcha. [Trollolol.]

This one tends to listen to the fastest music possible. Good for keeping momentum, not so good for dramatic tension.

Yeah, yeah. Just keep thinking about your ice cream. Triple scoop, fudge, caramel, nice big cherry on top... [Tease, tease.]
