It's basically mechanical prosthetics. It replaces arms or legs that you may have lost somehow.

[She can't really explain it at the moment because her mun is scatterbrained right now.]

I built his auto-mail and I repair it when he breaks it or it malfunctions.

Auto-mail can make you're life easier. You can get your arms or legs back and live like you would when you had them if you lost them. Not only that, they're lighter and stronger.
