Canon is Parasyte: The Maxim.

Why did you have to bring me out now of all times..? You've been out of the rp loop for so long..

[ Suddenly, the young man's right hand pops up, index finger transforming into what looks to be an eyestalk of sorts, at the end of which is a large and blinking eye. A pair of lips splits open from his palm at the same time, speaking up enthusiastically. ]

I wanna talk too. Shinichi. Let me talk too!

Wha-! Migi! You can't pop up here..!

Why can't I? After surveying this place, I have come to the conclusion that it is perfectly fine for me to show myself here.

But you're.. I mean.. You're pretty scary..

I have taken notice of many others who may be deemed "oddities" to your kind, around here. I am sure I am not the most frightening. Besides, I wish to engage with others of all sorts, in order to advance my scientific research. This opportunity should not be wasted.

[ Shinichi moans, slouching against the wall he happens to be standing near. He doesn't have to voice the words "Why me?!"; his face says it all. ]

[There's a blonde looking at you with a mix of concern and pity.]

You ok?

Oh, hi-! Um. I'm just... feeling very.. exposed in this place. [ He nervously tries to shove his hand behind his back, but - seeing as how it has a mind of its own and all - it's not that successful.

And now there's an inquisitive alien hand peering this newcomer's away, addressing her matter-of-factly. ]

He is freaking out because everyone can see us. It really isn't healthy for his blood pressure.

[A small nod.]

Something being a part of you that you never asked for? Living it, right here.

[She raises a hand some with a faint smirk.]

Though, will admit, not that much of an extreme.

[ She's not running away screaming, so, that's a good thing at least.. Maybe he can relax a little bit. ]

You, too? [ He offers a hapless smile, apologetic to hear that. ] Do you try to hide it, or.. embrace it?

[She cants her head.]

Mm... Bit of both. Hide it, to protect those close to me. Yet embrace it, because the one to add that part was someone I cared for dearly.

So it's like having some part of them.. a way to keep them with you? [ He has to admit, his sentimental heart finds that idea pretty sweet. ]

It's that - the thought I'll hurt someone I care about. That's the hardest part to live with.

I know. I mean, I take medicine for mine, but if I ever lapse... It gets... ugly.

[She frowns some.]

That seems difficult.. I'm sorry. [ He sighs, glancing over to his own little problem, who is currently just watching and listening to this exchange with curiosity. ]

Is there no way to cure what you have?

Only one, and it's not easy.

[She takes a deep breath.]

I'm a vampire. To return to being human, I have to kill another vampire named Sang; he turned Philip, the man who turned me before he died. Sang is absurdly strong, and always seems to be a step ahead of anything I plan to try and take him out.

[ A vampire-! He never expected something like this, though he remembers how Migi told him that there were all sorts of "oddities" around here. He can't hide the surprise on his face, but he's listening to her words intently and he isn't shirking away. ]

Are you in danger of him.. trying to kill you first? So that you can't come after him anymore? [ He has plenty of experience being hunted for similar reasons, and it's a terrifying prospect. ]

Absolutely. Hell, he even rose the dead to try and get rid of me. Zombie horde.

[She shakes her head.]

My advantage is I can survive in the daylight. He can't.

Shit. That's terrifying..

I mean, some of the parasites that come after me act like zombies, and that's bad enough. The actual thing is.. [ He gives a shudder; facing the literal undead, nooo thank you. ]

Could you try to hunt him down while it's daytime? [ He's sure she'd have tried that already if she could, but, Shinichi's curious to hear more about this. ]

Sang is good at hiding, rat that he is. But, I'm not alone. Donavin, my butler, has my back, same with my dogs. Well, they were Philip's, but became mine after he died...

Also, Philip's nephew, Talbot, is a werewolf, so he's been a huge help. It'll end eventually. All I can do is my absolute best to make sure it ends in my favor.

[Hopeful smile goes here.]

[ A werewolf, imagine! Shinichi's quite interested, and he's not the only one; his right hand which has been behaving itself suddenly moves again, deftly slipping a notepad and pen from Shinichi's breast pocket. The alien has to take notes on all of this and proceeds to quietly.

Shinichi uses his other hand to scratch the back of his head a little awkwardly, but otherwise his focus remains on the girl and he sends a hopeful smile of his own her way. ] It sounds like you have some really good friends on your side. That must make it a lot better than having to face it alone.

Yeah... What about you, though? Do you have anyone who has your back? To help you deal with your... friend there?

[For lack of a better term.]

Not really, no.. I've been hiding it from.. well, everyone back home.

[ A sigh. ]

I think that's what the mun is hoping for.. That I'll make some friends. But I'm not exactly sure how that's going to work out.

Well, you've made one already.

[She offers a hand with a smile.]

My name's Lily Jordan.

[ He blinks in pleasant surprise before offering his left hand to her with a friendly smile of his own. ]

I'm Shinichi, Shinichi Izumi. It's really nice to meet you, Lily. Have you been around this.. place long? [ He's not sure what to call it. ]

[She gives the hand a firm shake before letting go.]

Off and on for a couple of years. My mun's life loves to punch her in the face sometimes. I take it you're pretty new?

Mine's been away for a long time and decided to make a comeback. I guess I'm the experiment to see how it goes. [ A mirthless laugh. ]

Yeah, I have pretty much zero clue what the agenda is for me. Apart from being forced into some of those.. meme things.

Oof. I've heard of those.

I'm pretty much in the same boat; mun insists she wants to put me in some game somewhere, but she's been out of the loop for a while and has no idea where to even start looking.

[ There's a sigh at the mention of games. ] I'm dreading if mine decides that's the route we're headed. Apparently, the meme places are going pretty slowly right now, and my mun's itching to write again, so... it doesn't look good for for me.

I just hope I'd wind up somewhere that doesn't make me.. uh.. more messed up than I already am. [ He laughs - because what else can one do in a situation like this but laugh? ]

Tell you what, if you do end up getting stuck somewhere, I'll have my mun track you down, so I can find you. We can just become friends again.

[She gives him another hopeful smile.]

Your companion is quite odd, but as long as he behaves no one will treat you poorly.

[Says the Zombie with a dragon/snake thing coming out of her head.]

[ He might be doing a double-take. He's seen Some Things, but this is new, woah. ]

He.. could do better about behaving himself, to be honest. [ An awkward chuckle before he looks up to the creature sticking out of the girl's head. ] Does yours behave..?

I would like that! [ What a kind offer; he sends a bright smile her way. ]

My mun is pretty easily reachable if you ever need us. There's DW messages, and your mun is always welcome to send a message on this place, too. [ He's happy for the potential to have an ally around. It does get pretty lonely. ]

[The creature speaks up. His voice carrying an English accent.]

I am the picture gentlemanly manners than you very much.

I don't recognize the fellow in your hand, but I do believe just by looking at him that we are both "parasites" though I loathe to use the term.

[Then it was Squigly's turn to talk.]

His name is Leviathan and my name is Squigly. If it wasn't for Leviathan I would be more the mindless undead sort.

Oh! A-apologies. [ He's still getting used to no longer living the very-average human life he always did, but he hopes he didn't seem rude, offering a smile. ] I'm Shinichi, and this is Migi.

[ His hand moves closer, eye blinking up to Leviathan to speak to him. Migi's own voice has a sweet tone, yet he speaks in a formal manner. ]

The term "parasite" is a strange one, isn't it. It makes one seem like a mindless insect without higher intelligence, which I - and clearly you - are not. [ He looks to Squigly, studying the pair with interest. ] The two of you seem to co-exist well?

It's a pleasure to meet both of you. I hope we can get along.

[Squigly gives a polite bow and smile. Leviathan was the one to respond to Migi.]

Yes I have been loyal to Squigly's family for some time. Her father was my previous host. Judging by Shinichi's reactions I am guessing that you were a more sudden addition to his life?

It's nice to meet you, too! I never thought I would come across someone else who was sort of like us. [ Shinichi bows back, while Migi continues to speak to Leviathan. ]

So you are like an "inheritance"? Fascinating.. [ To the question, he nods his.... eye. ] My kind came to earth one night, though I do not know the reason why. I was meant to take over my host's brain, but I... failed.

[ He pauses in thought, remembering what Squigly said a moment ago. ] Your host would be mindless without your presence? Do you keep her "alive"?

We are not the only ones either. Filia has her Parasite Samson and they get along quite well. Although he does have more vices than Leviathan.

[It was interesting to have these two conversations going on. The last time there was a casual talk like this Leviathan and Samson were fighting and it lead to an actual brawl.]

Quite right although it is by my own choice.

[Leviathan looked surprised at his frankness about the original purpose he had.]

I am guessing you have abandoned that task to instead coexist with young Shinichi?

[He nodded his head at that question.]

It was not by my power she was brought back from the dead. That is by the power of the Skull Girl. However were she to be raised as undead without my interference she would lack any will of her own. My presence allows her to maintain her personality.

Where you come from, is this sort of thing normal? Or are you seen as.. an anomaly? [ Shinichi's quite curious to hear more about Squigly's backgrounds; he hasn't been able to talk to anyone else about Migi and the feeling is admittedly really nice. ]

I had no choice, really. I matured in his hand, so his brain would be inoperable to me now. For my own survival, I must co-exist with him this way. [ Migi's curiosity is more scientific than Shinichi's. He'll probably start taking notes in a minute.. ]

Do you require nutrients from her body, somehow? Or are you a creature who has no need for such things?

It's not particularly normal I'm sorry to say. There are some individuals of note with parasites, but by and large they aren't normal.

[She was perfectly happy to talk to Shinichi about it. He seemed like a polite boy.]

I can't say I approve of your rather mercenary approach to the matter, but as long as you're not a danger to this young man or innocents around him we won't come into conflict.

[Leviathan was good at staying cordial. There were only a few people who really riled him up.]

I require some nutrients however if necessary I can bring myself into a dormant state. I was resting with Squigly for fourteen years until the rise of a new Skull Girl caused her body to rise again.

[He shakes his head sadly.]

Half her life spent in the ground. If only we could have foreseen that terrible night.

It's definitely not normal where I'm from, either. Humans would freak out if they knew, and even the other parasites want to kill us...

[ Migi's quiet for a moment, thinking about that. ] I only do what it takes to protect my own existence. I have no need to target an innocent, but if anyone should try to harm my host, I will end it quickly.

[ His kind are not aggressive by nature, but there is something frightening to his cold way of viewing things. He's noting the sadness in Leviathan's demeanour as he speaks, and this too gives Migi some thought, his eye widening curiously. ]

You feel emotional reactions towards your host?

Yes I imagine anyone outside my family would be quite shocked. Though they have existed for quite some time. At least as far back as Ancient Egypt if not longer.

[It was comforting at least to know Migi's approach was at least a logical one if rather cruel to Shuichi.

Leviathan in turn looked surprised at his question.]

Of course, how could I not? I watched her grow up from infancy to the young woman she is today. I am loyal to Ms. Squigly as I was to her family.

Are you saying you are bereft of emotion yourself?

Is it a symbiotic relationship? Mutualism or Commensalism? Since you do not seem harmed. (Hades likes what he sees, but he's an odd one himself.)

[ Before the boy can answer, his hand is piping up. Biology's sort of the alien's favourite subject. ]

I have determined it is mutualism. I provide protection and maintenance over my host's internal vitality. I am also the safekeeping voice of reason for his damaging human emotions.

Well done. (He bows his head in respect to the hand, not the least bit perturbed.) Human emotions can be damaging, that is so, but they add color to a world that would otherwise be bleak.

[ The alien is blinking up at the newcomer with obvious curiosity, eye widening. The presence is definitely not human, but doesn't seem to be threatening - and the words further probe his curiosity. ]

Colour? I don't understand the connection between colours and emotions. Will you please elaborate?

What is natural is expected, is it not? That creates a canvas of black and white. There are no surprises and thus no vibrant splashes of color. If you add humans and their emotions to what is natural, suddenly, you cannot account for all of their actions. Why does one person die saving another, for example? Should it not be survival of the fittest?

[ He's thinking deeply about that for a long moment. ]

I see.. Unpredictability. If the earth were to be seen as a single organism, the presence of humans could be considered a genetic flaw in this organism. Causing chaos with these emotions that inhibit their own survival.

[ A pause as he considers the word vibrant in this context. He's still learning the implications of certain words. ]

Do you enjoy the.. vibrancy of human chaos?

Are you able to.. hide Leviathan and be around other people? Or do you have to avoid people altogether? [ He supposes he's fortunate in one sense that Migi can so easily hide himself as an ordinary hand. ]

My kind have no need for emotions. I'm studying them to understand human behaviour, but I still find them confusing.

[ He's quiet, thinking for a moment. ]

The word "loyalty".. Does it not make you feel like a servant to your host?

When I was alive I could hide him well enough. As grotesque as it is the current hole in my head is a fatal bullet wound.

[It did seem quite unique to her how well Shinichi could hide his parasite though.]

Hm well I hope you come to learn more about human emotions in time. I suppose one born without them being there innately it would be quite confusing.

[Leviathan pauses. Not because Migi has a point, but more how to describe it to him.]

To an extent I do serve Ms. Squigly, but we are actually equals. We fight as one and we work together as one. What I mean by loyalty is I've come to enjoy the presence of Squigly's family over the years. I desired to see them happy and healthy. If for some reason I did not desire such a thing I could leave any time I wanted to.

You were killed by someone? Th-that's horrible. I'm sorry... [ For all the emotions Migi lacks, Shinichi has, and he's frowning in sympathy. ]

Your choice... That is interesting. [ So he isn't a servant at all. It's difficult for Migi to rationalise why someone would choose this existence, but then again, choice isn't a word he's ever really been afforded. He just does what he knows for survival. ]

Shinichi and I also work together as one, and I suppose technically speaking, we are loyal to one another. I also aim to keep him healthy, but for the reason that it benefits me. You and I have similar situations with similar factors involved, yet in comparison to you who is like a friend to your host, I must truly seem like a parasite.

Yes unfortunately no one in my family made it alive past that assassination attempt. I appreciate your sympathies.

[She gives him a smile. Leviathan is interested in his conversation with Migi]

Yes I was impressed by the first of Squigly's family I took on as my host. I decided to follow him and ever subsequent child has not disappointed me.

[Though given Squigly's status he'd be staying with her from there on.]

More than myself maybe, but I do believe young Shinichi mentioned that those of your kind who had successfully taken over their host would try to kill you. Correct?

So while you didn't do it of your own kindness he is at the very least fortuitous that your lives became linked.

Perhaps you will come to appreciate those emotions the more time you spend with humanity.

Was there any justice for it?

That is correct. Though most days my presence seems to be like a curse to him. [ They argue... a lot. ]

Perhaps. I do not think I will ever have a need for human emotions myself, but if I can understand them more, I can understand humanity and therefore.. my own reason for being here. [ His lips form a tight line in thought. ] Ideally, anyway. In any case, it is fascinating to discover the presence of other parasitic type beings such as yourself.
