Adopted father turned out to be evil and using him, tortured by his fairy god mother, killed his adopted father and believed the love of his life was dead, lived for ten years under the threat of being killed if he stepped out of line, lost the love of his life to vampirism, discovered he had a half brother and that his mother was actually murdered, had the Shadow of a Fallen Angel living in his head later give up her life for him, and has lost numerous other friends along the way, sometimes because of his secrecy, and has to worry about screwing up his mentorship of his good friend's daughter.]

Certainly quieter places to be, if you're looking to think.

[His eyes glaze over when he feels what this man has suffered.] ...how...how do you trust anyone?

[Jonathan is a lizard person in a human disguise who was part of a Reptilian invasion of Earth until he was ordered to kill a human that he'd grown close to and had promised to protect. He turned against the invasion, and ended up being pursued by a reptilian assassin. He hid in the home of a human sheriff, who betrayed Jonathan in exchange for having his gambling debts resolved, and ultimately the human he promised to protect died saving him. He also has a lot of guilt surrounding the things he's done to harm humans when he was still with the invasion.]

Voices? What do you mean?

[Oh? He wants an example? Cole's gaze turns blank, his voice running with what he sees, what he feels.]

[Having this guy just blurt out Ozzie's name makes him panic. How much does he know?]

[Cole cants his head to the side.]

Can you not block them? [His gift isn't quite the same as hers; she doesn't know that, but she can sense enough to know that he's more than he appears. But still, she's an old hand at sorting through the noise by now, and picking out what she wants to hear.]

[ooc: Normally she blocks her mind, but Cole operates a little differently, so I think he'd still pick up things from her. If you aren't fully canon familiar, basic rundown: fought against her father's people to defend her mother's people. exiled from her homeland. Lead her people across a frozen landbridge, lots of death. War against Big Bad, her family tree seriously trimmed- all four of her older brothers die in battle. Later, her daughter is captured and tortured- she recovers physically, but has to go to Galadriel's aformentioned homeland to heal emotionally. There's more but that's the basic gist. Think survivor's guilt and control issues, and you've got the right idea.]

What? Yeah. But that wasn't what I asked.

[Saft here wears a human-guise for most of the time, but she's actually a rather young half-dragon. She has a tonne of dad-issues due to him experimenting on her with dark magics until she was found by her grand-uncle who took her in and helped her cope with being what she is. Ravus ; her father is long gone but there's still other complications in her life she has to deal with such as a cursed human best friend (NOT BOY FRIEND, HE'S A BOY AND HE'S A FRIEND BUT THEY'RE TRYING TO TAKE THINGS SLOWLY AND NOT RUSH THINGS.) who has no control over his curse which turns things grey when he comes into contact with them, dealing with those who dislike dragons and a whole bunch of other things...needless to say she has a very complicated life and there's way more to it than I've mentioned here but I didn't want to slam you with a wall of text whoops.

She just wants humans and dragons to be able to live in peace with each other, okay? It'll happen someday, hopefully if something doesn't go wrong.]

Sometimes I can.

[He feels the wail of anguish within her now, for example -- the desire for peace desperately scrabbling against her fear and despair of people like her father, and humans who find pleasure in killing dragons. Also because of fear...mostly.]

...but sometimes...they are strong enough that I speak them.

[She's not sure she quite understands what he means though - better to keep things that way, maybe. Not that she isn't used to this kind of thing.]

Maybe you just need to find a better focus? Something to occupy your time, like making new friends? Discovering some kind of really great talent? I hear baking can be relaxing.

[Even now, he's getting a little overwhelmed; again, he tries to still his tongue.]

It...isn't always something I can control. Especially when distracted.

[Oh Gods, why is she always so sincere to people? Maybe she should try and prove her point by throwing him a distraction.]

[He gives a brief pause, his eyes going blank, and he doesn't realize he's speaking aloud as the memory overwhelms him. Usually it's very situational, the things he sees -- they come over people when they're reminded of them, suddenly, but lately...]

[That almost sounds as if, but there's no way. Ravus has already been dealt with. She pauses for a moment giving him a look of uncertainty. She needs to be sure of what was just said because even if it isn't Ravus related and this guy has visions of something that might happen it means there are people she's going to have to protect.]

...Excuse me?

...I am sorry. Sometimes the memories move my tongue.

Huh.

[So he sees memories? That's not so bad. But then again there's some stuff she doesn't want to relive anytime soon.]

[She's still a little on edge now, but Cole doesn't seem harmful in anyway. She doesn't see any reason to abandon him here.]

[Cole smiles, his shoulders relaxing a little.]

When you put it like that, it doesn't sound as bad as everyone seems to make it out being.

[She returns the smile.]

I never thought I'd get to meet an actual spirit before. Just wait until Uncle Glad hears about this...! Uh if that's okay with you of course?

[Cole shrugs.]

He'd be fascinated, I'm sure...he's always really interested in meeting new people and adding to his studies. He's not just a wonderful Grand-Uncle but he's a really good teacher at all... though his lectures can get boring after a while.

I'd much rather get out there and see what the world can offer me all on it's own.

[When you've been stuck in the darkness for so many years it only makes sense that she'd want to spread her wings and explore.]

I don't think I could right now, I have other obligations...and besides, I couldn't leave Uncle Gladinus on his own... he'd never cope if he was living on his lonesome again.

He's kind a jerk but I'm sure there's a heart in there somewhere underneath the sleep deprivation and snark.

Sincerity is not always bad...but sometimes you have to know when to hide yourself.

It's probably one of my biggest faults, I leave myself far too open to people. But at least I have good friends to help me through that kind of thing.
