[Daryl's jaw clenches a little at the sight of Noah. Kid had died pretty recently and while he knew that he could people who were dead (and not walkers), actually experiencing it was just a little unnerving. Made his heart hurt in ways he didn't want to think about.

He shook his head.]

No. Got it's own virus and the people that get it don't even die before they go looking to rip others apart. Haven't met those yet, but I expect I will.

[He wasn't sure how he was going to deal with having to put those ones down just yet. Unlike walkers, they had a chance of being cured. By all technicality anyway.]

[The staring is a little awkward sure, but he's chalking it up to Daryl being Daryl. Sometimes he forgets his recent foray into the land of not living might freak people out.]

Well, shit. Get a chance to leave home and get stuck someplace worse. You got anyone else there, at least?

[He shook his head again.]

Nah. Met one who might be one of us. Asked him the questions. But I'm the only one of the group that's there. And none of the others know shit about walkers or how to deal with 'em.

[And oh that was too bad. He hoped to here that the group was still someplace doing well. He hadn't ran with them long but they were still the best thing to happen since he left home with his dad.]

If they can't deal with walkers, how are they gonna deal with the threats there?

[A shrug.] About as good as can be expected, I guess. Haven't turned and still breathing, so there's that.

Some of them got good heads on their shoulders. They just ain't had to deal with the dead that walk.

[He'd do his best to teach those he could, but he didn't have high hopes for a lot of them surviving. They weren't his, though. It was only his that he wanted to let himself worry about. He didn't need more weight on his shoulders than he already had.]

Glad to hear it.

[And he was. Not turning was good. Still breathing even better. He knew Glenn had seen Noah get taken down and it had hurt so much that they couldn't stop it.]

That one that got you, they ain't dragging you around too badly are they?

Sounds like they come from a better world than us.

[What he wouldn't give to be on one of those worlds, living and dying without worrying about what comes next.]

Mostly just running me around places like this. It's not so bad, at least I've seen some of you guys again. Might not look it, but I can handle whatever they try throw at me.

[He laughs, ducks his head. He's a little proud to hear it.]

Don't think you want to take my route to get here, man. But you know, it's not as bad as I thought. Was sort of thinking fire and brimstone, not this craziness. I would have preferred sticking around Alexandria, but. Well.

[He didn't want that fate for any of the group. Ever. He knew it would keep happening, he wasn't some optimistic fool, but he still had trouble accepting it. Probably always would.]

Well, I'm here and I ain't gone down that path yet. Wish it could mean I could bring you back. Know it can't.

...Glenn misses you. Everyone misses you. A lot of dumb shit has been happening, too. You hear about that?

[Noah had once had some sort of hope that it was a fate that could be escaped. Then Beth happened. He happened. He still wanted to believe for them anyway.]

And I hope you don't. You guys don't need me back. You'll find a way. It's who you are.

[He feels bad about it, knowing what Glenn had to see.]

Is he tore up about it? It wasn't on him. He's a good one. Him and Maggie. Can see where Beth got it from. [He pauses, wondering if he should have brought that up.] I haven't heard much.

They got it from their father. She ever tell you about Hershel? One tough sonnabitch, that man.

[He's not over any of their deaths, but he can talk about them. Now. Had taken him a while to get back to that point. It was easier not to, to try and just shove it away and ignore it. But he could do talk.]

Don't worry about Glenn. He's gotten through it. He does better at this...

[He waved one hand to indicate the whole nebulous 'feelings' and 'emotions' thing.]

No. She'd didn't talk much about stuff from before. But I can believe it, seeing her.

[He doesn't have to say how useless that is. He's going to worry. He doesn't think many people deal well with seeing others ripped apart, regardless how often it's happening back home.]

You're trying to talk about it now and doing fine. I imagine he's just got more practice.

[Daryl just snorted at that. If all it took was practice, he wasn't ever going to get better.]

She was stuck somewhere she weren't safe. Keeping quiet was smart.

...you seen her around here at all?

I kind of spilled half my life story to her. [And now Noah feels a little stupid.]

No. [He shakes his head, looking away.] I'd like to, but I guess she's making herself scarce.

At one of them test drives, yeah. Asshole playing puppet master had me yell at her and she didn't come back after.

Was hoping she would, though. Showed her backbone real good before that. Was proud of her.

[A smile almost cracks Daryl's lips.]

You were there longer and you knew a good thing when you saw it. Don't feel too bad. She has a way of making people feel like talking.

Right? Girl's made of steel. Surprised she didn't give it right back to you.

[He does smile, looking back up.]

I think I was just excited to see the first person under thirty in forever. No offense.

It was one of those alternate world places. I didn't know her, she didn't know me. Had no reason to put up with my bullshit.

[He shrugged. Nothing could be done about it, now.

But at the admittance, even Daryl had to give a laugh. A small one, to be sure, but a laugh all the same.]

None taken. All you walking hormone fountains can congregate far away from me.

That...that actually sounds worse than not seeing her at all.

[He doesn't want to imagine finding your people and they stop being your's]

[Yeah, he's still really pissed about that.]

What makes you think I like you?

[Other than the teasing smile on his face.]

Well you didn't shoot me when you had the chance. And took me with you. I figure I'm in your good graces after that.

[This whole thing is starting to get a little too mushy for his tastes. Daryl looked away, shoulders hunching just enough to be noticeable.]

You pull your weight.

[His voice is soft, loud enough to be heard, but not by much. He really is crap with the emotional shit.]

[Noah's a bright kid, he knows when he's making someone uncomfortable.]

So. What else do you know about where you're heading?

[Oh good. A topic change. He likes those.]

It's supposedly on Earth something like a hundred years from now. All the people there have been dumped by some bastards into an oasis in a desert that could be just about anywhere in the world. Dropship's destroyed, we got dry goods to last a couple weeks at best and almost no weapons. Tore a piece of twisted metal off the shell of the ship just to get something to make sure the dead didn't get back up.

[They were in bad shape, basically. But it wasn't something Daryl had any lack of familiarity with.]
