On being accepted at carvaka
That's wonderful. I've needed a new place to broadcast to.
[The voice that comes happily across the network sounds a lot like a late night home shopping network had way too much coffee. His voice is light and singsonging but empty somehow.] Remember during the sandstorm when we got to see them all? To give them big hugs and tell them how important they are to us? I remember seeing Cecil there when the vortex opened. We had a special moment there between the worlds. A very special moment.
I didn't see a vortex this time though. I was just here. Here isn't an outdated dry radio station either with a picture of a man who is like me but not me. There also - [Kevin's happy voice drops ten degrees in tone, a hint of menace to it as if giving out a warning] - aren't any pictures of lighthouses. Not a one.
[The whiplash shift to happy is instantaneous, polite laughter and what one can image is a smile.] But there was no vortex or door. No literal five-headed dragons. No pictures of teeth either or interns named Sean. A shame that. Just look at the state of these windows. Vanessa, my intern, should be around shortly. Then we can get back to work. Work is more important than anything! It makes us feel fulfilled, alive. In fact, it's more important than living!
