I'm just gonna guess it's the same sort of thing that happens when my dad breaks open a brand new, empty notebook.

It's the same damn thing as every other notebook he's ever written in, but it puts him in a good mood the whole damn day.

Mm, it may not be the most conventient for us, but I can't begrudge them being as comfortable as possible.
