Admittedly eliminating piracy in a world built around the institution has proven slow work, but there will always be those who see the benefits of my Order. It is only a matter of time before the balance of power shifts in our favor.

As you must be aware, piracy is unsustainable. Sack too many towns, rob the wrong people, and the tides will turn against you. Then the people can be led towards a better system.

I'm an Assassin, Mate, and a Pirate t' boot. I cap'n a Ship most Days. Others, I kill Templars and their Associates. Essentially? We fight for Freedom. It involves a lot o' killin' and just as much sneaking about. Reconnaissance is every bit as Important as takin' out Targets.

I hold no illusions this will be easily accomplished. People are so set in their ways and governed by their baser natures it will take time to see them on the correct path, but better to make an attempt to end the cycle of war and conflict than allow it to continue unimpeded. This is why the Templars exist, to try and mitigate the damages caused by people like you who can not see past their own failings to what humanity could be if only given proper guidance.

The Guidance itself is what's dangerous. Humanity doesn't need to change. If ye want to end Conflict, go to the Individual. Actually fix Problems Case-by-Case, rather than the one Path that's best for every Man.

That's the Flaw in your Ideal. 'Oo gives that Guidance? 'Oo has the Power? 'Cause I'll tell ye, a few small Men makin' Choices for all Others on the Earth ain't Peace. Your Intentions are good, but you're goin' about it the wrong Way.

Doing as you suggest would only place a temporary patch on the problem not root out the core issue. The human weakness you mentioned before, that desire and need for power and prestige, that is what must be governed and controlled.

Perhaps I should find a simpler way to put this.
If a dam springs a leak your solution would be to run up to it and place your finger in the hole. This does nothing to shore up the dam or protect its integrity. The water may stop flowing from the gap you filled but it will spring again from another, and another, until the dam ultimately collapses. The only solution is to build a more stable dam on a firmer foundation. That is all I and those of my Order are attempting to do. Can you really claim that is the wrong way to handle the situation?

For a Dam, that's the right Way to go, aye. If ye can afford to tear it down, and it's too weak to be of Use.

But suppose ye see one Leak in your Dam, and from that one Flaw, ye assume the 'ole Thing will crumble. Not that big of a Stretch. So ye spend no small Amount o' Coin and Effort to tear it down and build a new One.

In tearin' it down, ye see the 'ole Dam, and ye realize--that was the only Leak to begin with. Ye could have jus' patched it up, saving Worker's Lives and your own Money. But Hell, you've already started, so why not create a Dam more to your liking?

At Times, a Patch makes more Sense than tearin' it all down. Ye think you see the Future, an' the Future is Rubble. But do ye really know?

It would be a shame to waste the time and effort correcting the problem if there were none but the old dam was weak or there would not have been a leak in it in the first place.

This world is the way it is. You claim humanity doesn't need to change, I believe it does but is incapable of that without an institution in place to see people do what is best. If left to their own devices people will only do what benefits them. Even in your experience as an assassin you must have seen the proof of that.

I have. Nassau went to Shite because not enough Folks cared enough to fight for it. Started out great--an Idea for Freedom--but turned into an endless Party. Problem was they didn't implement any sort of Rules.

Compare that to runnin' a Pirate Ship. If all the Crew has a say in Things, they appoint a Leader an' they govern themselves. It's possible. You know. You've seen it, least on a Few of those Ships ye share the Sea with. A Democracy. Do that, and People thrive. Give 'em a guidin' Hand. Some Advice. The Resources to do the right Thing. Then step back.

That's all ye can do. Ye can't change a Man if he doesn't want to change. How do ye think ye can change the whole World?

There are ships that claim democracy but even on them the Captain has final say on all decisions. What you assassins fail to understand is that freedom is an illusion. Hold your votes as you please but there will always be some one who actually holds the power. Better it be the Templers than some one who would misuse their authority.

Sounds to me like the Politics of a Ship confuse you. Let me Explain it in little Words. The People hold the Power. If the Captain don't follow what his Crew wants, he'll have a Mutiny on his Hands. A few Folks need to lead, aye, but that don't mean the Power stops there. The Captain, Quartermaster, First Mate--they all answer to the Crew. The Quartermaster relates the Crew's Mood to the Captain. A good Captain takes the Desires of the Crew an' Decides how best to Meet them. The Crew then Decides whether to follow that Decision or not.

I do not believe so. As soon as the person drowned, they would likely appear somewhere on the surface in a few days time. I have not tried it for myself but I know the person I killed showed up in an entirely different location than where the assassination took place.
