Re-Voicetesting, looking for a game
I only want to go to a game if I can be of actual service to the people there. I have a lot on my plate right now. A lot of people need at least some semblance of guidance and I'm the one in that position. It's not worth it to me to leave, even if no time really passes, if I'm not doing something to help my people. It's a good thing that you can all but ensure that there won't be Team Aqua members there; it helps ease my mind, it's true.
But there aren't many places that will take AUs. So don't take it as a personal failure if you can't find a place for me.
...I suppose looking for Gold and Lyra is too much to ask. Shame. Now that I've finally learned what they were trying to teach me about Pokemon and integrity, it's too late to tell them I understand.

Her hands cover his eyes from behind (she teeters a little on her tip-toes). ]
Don't you know that there are people to help everywhere?
no subject
I know. That's why I want to stay in our world. We're not problem-free yet.
But how've you been? It's been years since I've seen you.
[Well, it has in his world, anyway. His hair's longer, she might notice, and he's grown a couple of inches. He's still pretty much the same otherwise, though.]
no subject
I just saw you [ one hand gestures eagerly over her shoulder ] twenty minutes ago. Well, not you you, but ... [ Her hand tumbles back down and she tries again. ] I'm wonderful! Were in Goldenrod now -- do you remember? -- and in the process of stopping Team Rocket.
[ This Silver's eyes seem a little softer. ]
How are you? And why haven't you visited? Not me, of course, but other -- other Lyra?
no subject
I'm great. Well, I've been better, but I'm working to help stop Team Aqua from taking over Hoenn. That's why I haven't visited my world's Lyra - I've been far away, and busy, and I - I found out I have family, there. Grandparents, in Mossdeep.
[He has a family. He has friends in Team Magma. He has his team of Pokemon by his side. Despite the fact things are still in crisis mode, there's hope, real hope, inside him now. And it makes it all so much easier to bear.]
no subject
It's why Lyra's next string of words come out excited and breathy as she reaches to grasp at his wrist. ]
What are they like? And Mossdeep? Is it amazing?
no subject
[He glances at her hand on his wrist, but mentally shrugs it off. That's Lyra for you, energetic and people-friendly.] They're great. Well, my grandmother is always hinting that I should get a girlfriend, and my grandfather thinks I'm working myself too hard and I'm too skinny, so every time I come over I get fed way too much food and end up being introduced to some girl from the island, but... it's nice.
Mossdeep is great. Tropical, and there's little islands around it, and there's Wailmer that just hang out nearby sometimes and let people pet them. There's one crazy guy who's determined to ride them. It never works out for him. It's warm all year around and everyone kind of knows everyone.
no subject
Until she practically tackles poor Silver in a hug, laughing. ] You should convince me to! I want to see it all with my own eyes, and meet your family!
[ It's then that Lyra remembers who she is hugging and quickly releases him, smiling sheepishly. ] Sorry. [ Part of her keeps anticipating the sharp words that fly so effortlessly from the tongue of the Silver she knows.
The Silver she is trying to befriend. ]
What changed your mind in the end?
no subject
Well... you did. You, and Gold, although he was more of an idiot about things. But even a broken clock is right twice a day. And when I went to Hoenn, I... I found out who my real father was. I got to meet him. And my grandparents. And even though he's dead now, I'm... I'm okay now. Because I know there are people who would care if I died.
I used to think that the only way to have that in my life would be to grow strong, become the Champion or something, make people care about me. But now, now there are people who don't care about Silver, head of Team Magma, defender of Hoenn, blah blah blah. They care about me. Just because I'm me.
I'm butchering this friendship sappy speech thing. Shit, you never seemed to have a problem with it...
no subject
Congratulations, Silver. Speachless twice in one sitting? It must be a record. ] Fate thing or not [ oh so eloquent, Lyra ] I'm in.
I'm glad you got the chance to meet him, and I imagine he and your grandparents are happy they found you again. [ Her features soften a little as she rocks her weight on the balls of her feet. ] I wasn't sure if I was actually helping any or just annoying you all the time, but I won't ever give up, not until you move far, far away! Just like I hope your Lyra didn't.
[ A beat, and then: ]
And I won't let you die to Team Rocket or anyone else. Because you do matter, Silver, so much -- even if you curse at the end of your friendship speeches. [ Warm brown eyes are bright, teasing.]
no subject
You helped. You're still helping. And you're also still cheesy, and I should've known a speech about friendship was coming once I saw you. This one was a lot shorter than your normal ones, though. So there is hope for the future.
I'm not going to die. My grandmother would kill me.
no subject
Blushing. All the blushing and fiddling with her hat (that was never off center in the first place but now must be fixed). ] Both. Either. I don't know?
Hey! [ His side is rewarded with a gentle shove at the teasing remark, the proximity really highlighting the few inches he's claimed in his few years of absence. ] How do you know that I'm done with my speech? Maybe I was just pausing for breath?
I don't want your grandmother to have to kill you, though, so .... Wherever you go here, I'm coming, too.
Right?
no subject
[He's no good at this. He can't look at his feet in embarrassment, either, because she's shorter than him and therefore he'd just end up looking at her. Ugh. He never should have said anything.
But... he's not opposed to the idea.]
no subject
I am?
[ Though Silver has grown and changed leaps and bounds, there are still parts of him that remind her of her rival back home, like the way he turns his head, or the way his words remain steady even when he's flustered. ]
A-And you're special, too. Even if you can't beat me, and you tune out half my speeches.
[ She plucks her hat from her head, curly pigtails shifting as she finds the tips of her toes to plant it on Silver. ]
no subject
See, moments like this are why I tune you out. It's hard to take you seriously sometimes. Still better than the uniform, though.
[...now he remembers stripping her out of it and great, he is managing to shoot himself in the foot every four seconds during this conversation. But she'll never know how his heart had plummeted when he saw her in a Rocket uniform, how his mind had raced entertaining a hundred horrible scenarios. He's fine being beaten by her so long as she never, ever does that again.]
no subject
[ Or, well, it was until she is reminded of suddenly being stripped from her disguise and left to deal with the aftermath. But hours ago. ]
It was going to work! You knew I had clothes on under that.
.... Right, Silver?
no subject
It was never going to work - you didn't even change your hairstyle or anything. [He takes her hat off his head and adjusts the bow, looking at it and not her when he says a little too quickly,] Having an outfit underneath isn't the point! You could've been found out in the middle of a place swarming with Rockets... [His expression softens into something still glaring, but more concerned.] You could have been killed. Do you realize that? You couldn't have taken on all of them, Lyra.
no subject
[ Lyra's arms reach to either side of her in demonstration, but slowly fall ad she bites her lower lip. She is used to being berated, snapped at -- but this she can feel settling in her throat. ] They would have never known. [ A quiet reassurance as a small hand reaches to touch his wrist. ] And even if they had, I'm strong; I trust in my team. I know that they wanted this just as much as I did, and that we couldn't just --
There's no turning back, only moving forward. And I want to make sure I can be proud of every step I take.
[ Even if that means taking risks.]
no subject
But he knows that if he keeps pushing people away, one day, there won't be anyone coming back.]
People die doing heroic things, Lyra. You're not immune to that.
My father died, fighting Team Aqua. He had twenty years of battle experience and a team that had all the right moves to make up for their weaknesses, but the sheer number of Aqua members overwhelmed him.
The same thing could've happened to you. And I would never have known because you always had to play hero, go in first, never ask for back up... idiot, do you know what that would've done to me?
no subject
She hadn't stopped to think, but --
When the trainer speaks again, her voice is quiet, hardly registering as a whisper to her own ears: ] I thought you hated me. [ For all her attempts to steady it, it shakes.
She leans up on the tips of her toes, exhaling softly as the damp fingers of her free hand hesitantly find the back of Silver's head, entangling in crimson strands as she tries to drag him a little closer, comfort him as the shock wears thin and the reality registers:
She matters. ]
Silver .... H-Hey. Look, silly. I'm right here.
no subject
I didn't hate you. I was jealous of you. Because people cared about you. Because you're smart, and confident, and strong. Because you made friends with everybody. Because you're everything I'll never be.
[He leans down to rest his forehead against hers.] I know. And how long will you be here before some other crisis calls you away, somewhere I can't follow?
No matter how old I get, I'm always too late, and I can never help.
no subject
You're smart. [ A short laugh, because it isn't supposed to be something amusing (even if it is). Quickly, Lyra purses her lips to ammend her mistake. ] How many people do you think outsmart the proffesor? Or are resourceful enough to keep watch over a trainer who wants to be everywhere at once?
And strong. Probably stronger than me. [ Her features soften. ] You've been through so much, but herebyou are, fighting for what is right. You may even be able to pick mebup. [ The trainer wrinkles her nose. ] Maybe.
And when that crisis happens, when I need to battle team Rocket, take down Giovanni, help Lance -- come with me? [ Its only now that Lyra appears somewhat apprehensively, rocking her weight once on the balls of her feet and accidentally bumping noses with Silver. A mumbled apology, and then: ] I'm going to be just like Red someday, so, be my Green?
We can adventure together. Even if you're old.
no subject
He nods, solemnly.]
I will. I'll be your Green. Even when we both get old and there's nowhere else to see or Teams to take down. I'll be here as long as you want me to.
[There's that smile again. Bigger, this time.]
no subject
Because I know its been a few years. Can you keep up? I might need you for a long, long time, Silver.
no subject
no subject
Of course I will! You aren't scared? What are they trying to do?
[ After a pause: ]
D'you think your grandparents will like me?
no subject
Oh, they'll like you. Everyone does. It's a thing. [He ends up sort of nuzzling her face in trying to turn to hide his smile.] Don't mind if my grandfather insists you're too skinny and need to eat something. He does that for everyone.
no subject
A thing? [ She falls back to the flats of her feet, refusing to release Silver just yet. Grasping at his jacket, she dips her chin, hiding her face in the crook of his neck as she laughs. ] When did you decide you liked me?
[ Oh. Wait. Cue foot in mouth syndrome. ]
no subject
[He smiles, gingerly wrapping his arms around her.] What made you decide to like me? Drugs?
no subject
[ Ever so gently, she pinches his shoulder, vowing to stick her tongue out at him. Later. If she remembers. ] Who says I like you? [ Her bright, playful smile is pressed to his skin. ] Or if I'll ever tell?
What will you do, Silver?
no subject
...and holding her close is nice, too, but if she asks it was the hat thing. Man's gotta have dignity, you know?]
no subject
Flushed. Happy. Determined not to allow Jim to shrug her away again. ]
It was probably the second time we met. You were yelling at me, but .... There was concern there, too, just a little. You were so driven, even if you were so infuriating.
Jerk.
no subject
[He looks at her, quirking an eyebrow.] Like me being a jerk is a surprise to you now. It's part of my charm. Or it would be if I had any.
boo work :c expect tags after!!
If you didn't -- just ...
[ The pout slips away, replaced by indecision as she wets her lips
Hey, close your eyes?
Fine by me.
[There's a questioning tone to it, but he goes along with Lyra's suggestion. He doesn't even question it. It's Lyra. Nothing bad will happen.]
no subject
And then his forehead.
She grins apprehensively, settling back on the flats of her feet. ]
If you weren't charming, would I do that?
no subject
But I think that's more about you being charming.
no subject
They are acting like grade schoolers. But Lyra can't bring herself to care.]
Nope! If it was because of that, I wouldn't be the one, err, kissing you.
no subject
That's why I want you by my side in Hoenn. You never back down. Idiot.
[She's kind of dumb, for rushing in like she does. It's noble, but he's afraid one day it'll get her killed, just like his father. At the same time, she'd get involved even without his greenlighting it, so he might as well involve her.
Or at least that's what he'll tell himself to justify hugging her and holding her close like this.]
no subject
I just don't want to waste any time. There's only so much of it and a thousand things that I want to do, people I want to meet.
With you.
So there's no time to waste!
[ Lyra tips her head up, planting her chin against Silver's upper chest as warm brown eyes search him curiously, arms wrapped comfortably about his neck. She is never going to stop leaping before she looks or volunteering herself against impossible odds, but now ....
Now she's not alone. ]
You thought I was confident? What else did you think of me at first sight?
