I wish you would slow down, mun. You always feel the need to come out of a lull with an absolute flurry of activity and it never ends well for anyone. Do me a favor and step away from the memes. Pace yourself. Ease yourself back into it and see how well you do. If, and only if, you can keep up then feel free to add more to your plate beyond that.

You're going to do as you please, I just hope you'll take some good advice into consideration.

Nope. Never. They wouldn't know good advice if it hit them. It's almost like they're predestined to do exactly the opposite.

*Lucky. It was a meeting this Carol would sooner forget. As for Jim, he's never operated within normal boundaries like other people. It just doesn't seem to be in his nature.*

I often wonder if they do it out of spite.

[ it isn't in the nature of any version of him, and she'd know after colliding with him in ways she hopes this other carol hasn't. a part of her hopes little david won't turn out wild and untamed like his father. ]

*Jim and his myriad selves are something she can deal with. David on the other hand... Now that is a touchy subject.*

I've tried. She went off and tagged everything within a two week radius then nearly had a meltdown of massive proportions when the timezones caught up to her.

Actually, that was amusing.

I hope mine doesn't get any ideas off of that. If she goes off and does the same, I'm blaming you.

If she's near paralyzed by the sheer volume of things to respond to in her inbox you can thank me for it. I had a nice little break while she cycled through it and everyone else that resides in her headspace got their turns to speak.

That'll be her once she heads back to work tomorrow. She's always seemingly on top of things during the weekend, only to get buried under a mountain of things she's tagged into during the work week. You'd think she would've learned by now...

A break must've been nice. Mine can't seem to let any of us go. It's ridiculous.

Ah, work. The biggest stumbling block next to finals and lack of a wi-fi connection. Children should be on that list too, I'm sure.

I understand the need for moderation and all, but come on. Nothing wrong with some healthy enthusiasm!

You are the last person to give any kind of worthwhile advice in this arena. Do you even know how to avoid jumping head first into any given situation?

Don't underestimate the value of gut instinct. It's one of our finest qualities as human beings.

Even though impetuosity is generally categorized as a personal flaw? There's gut instinct and then there's throwing yourself at everything and anything without thought. This is definitely the latter.

We're all plucked out of our respective worlds and universes and dropped into this city, right? It's got four sub-cities attached to it, and all of them are surrounded by these strange fields that are, supposedly, impenetrable. Just today we found out that this place involves spirits of all things, and that they're holding back a lot of information about why we're here in the first place.

[He leans on his arms.]

I mean to discover the truth, and get back to the Enterprise, along with anyone else stuck here.

Shields, you say. And spirits. You're joking, right? Are these spirits of people you know or strangers?

*Carol takes a moment to think about what it is he's telling her.*

How many people are in this city? Is anyone there of their own free will?

Can't say for sure, I've never seen them.

[He doubts that Raye girl is making it up, though, she's too stern and bossy.]

I don't have a proper count, but I'd estimate...somewhere between fifty and sixty? And I don't think anyone woke up there because they wanted to.

So much for the ghost of Christmas past then.

*She gets to make jokes since she isn't stuck there. That's just how that works.*

No. No one from the Enterprise except myself.

[Isn't he the lucky one? He raises his arms slightly before dropping them.]

One of my former classmates is here too. Not sure if you've ever met Gaila or not, you'd probably get along with her.

The name doesn't ring any bells for me. Has she been there long? Was there anything she was able to tell you? Any potential weak spots in the shields?

[And he kind of feels bad that Gaila's first impression is Jim being bitter-drunk at her.]

*He's lucky Carol is ~~Not Bones~~ a decent enough person to leave that one alone without arguing.*

It sounds frustrating. Of course without being there I couldn't really tell you anything that would be helpful.

[He looks away, then to the floor, then back up at her.]

It's one of those situations where I wish you were here, but I also don't. It's not always a nice place.

Jim Kirk, are you saying you miss me?

*There's a half smile on her face when she tries to lighten the mood but it doesn't last long before she gets serious again.*

I've seen things that weren't nice before. How bad could it be compared to that?

[He looks at her directly. There's a brief moment of quiet, just so she knows he means it.]

You know I do.

[But she's right. His gaze drops again. Carol saw her father's skull crushed in front of her very eyes. It's hard to out-traumatize something like that, and he knows she's strong.]

I just don't want you to think it's one of those pleasant slice-of-life places with wacky shenanigans everywhere. There are legitimate evil villains hanging out in this place, and people with powers I can't even begin to know how to combat.

*It's her turn to look away. Carol isn't prone to blushing but she does move a piece of hair behind her ear.*

Don't think I've forgotten about the dinner you owe me.

*There's a shake of her head when he gives her more details about the situation.*

Khan was a different breed of human and you found a way to deal with him. I don't doubt that if anyone can find a way to freedom, it'll be you.

Wouldn't dream of it.

[And he grins a little. Is she flustered? Awwwww.]

I can't take credit for that. Taking down Khan, that was the crew. ...But thanks. I'm glad for the vote of confidence.

*It's been a while since she's done any kind of flirting. She's rusty. Shh.*

It was also you adapting to the situation and overcoming when new information was presented. You could have handed him over to my father rather than try to deal with the situation and we all would have been dead there and then. There was more to dealing with him then simply taking him down as you put it.

[He's just flattered that she's making the attempt. She's smart and beautiful, and she's got a solid character that he admires. Seriously, who wouldn't be flattered? While Jim isn't speechless (that's impossible), he does feel like she deserves something words can't really convey. So he squeezes her slim shoulder, his expression fond.]

*Resting her hand on top of his in order to squeeze back, her expression is just as fond. Which is something considering that she hadn't even intended to like him when they'd first met, let alone respect him.*

Don't mention it, Jim.

[Aw, geez...they're having a moment. A real moment. So he puts his arms around her and just...hugs her. Hopefully she won't think he's being too forward, because he's just going to place a brief, affectionate kiss to the top of her pretty blonde head. She could do better than Kirk, and everyone knows it. But he's glad she's his friend.]

*He's so much more than a friend though. He's family. It's not something she has much of outside of the Enterprise and her crew anymore. Which is why, British or not, she can appreciate the gesture for what it is. Is even willing to return it wholeheartedly.*

I think I needed that more than I realized.

What a coincidence, I was thinking you needed that too.

[His grin is cheeky, but he'll keep holding her as long as she likes.]

Oh were you now? Good thing for me you're so observant then.

*She'll just keep holding on a little bit longer. Just a little bit. Carol doesn't want to make things awkward or read more into the situation than there is. He's family, yes, but boundaries between them are still largely undefined.*

Yeah, I should write a book on critical observations.

[Or he can just hug her some more. He doesn't have a defined window of time for this, just until she decides she's had neough.]

*The contact is pleasant if she's honest with herself-- and she usually is. Painfully so. If he's in no rush to move then she won't be either.*

You realize that that could end in one of two ways, don't you?

[As if he could ever truly give up being the captain of the Enterprise. But he's feeling a little goofy.]

What two ways are those?

Either incredibly well or very, very badly.

Amusing as always Doctor, no my mun got rather distracted by a game of sorts...childish really.

I think he is rather fond of my personality.....never really played a "bad guy" before, I think he enjoys it.
