"Behind schedule"? That's how you put it?
Listen. An alliance is a system of gears, comprised of equal, interlocking parts. If either half fails, then the mechanism doesn't function. Do you understand?
Guess I'll have to oil you, then....

Ditto on that whole post title

Even so, I'd hoped she'd surprise me.

Good to know someone can get some work done. It's way to noisy in my mun's head—all these other characters runnig around...
So, big plans for while you're learning to be a "proper young woman?"
no subject
Nothing but! I've been homeschooled, so it's actually exciting - for now, at least.
And yourself? Sorry if I'm mistaken, but you don't seem that optimistic.

... and maybe some recent family business I'd rather my peers not be privy to.

Either way, it's nice to meet a returning student! Feels a bit odd to be transferring in the middle of high school, but what can you do? That's just the way things worked out.
--I'm Malika, by the way. Potential fifth-year.
no subject
I've been at Achtenberg since I was twelve, but I've seen students transfer in at later years who seemed to integrate into the community better than I had.
I'm sure you'll be fine.

Pleasure to meet you, and that's good to hear. I'm looking to start up a club or something, so hopefully that'll help with meeting people.
Don't suppose you like to play games?
no subject
Hate to disappoint, but I'm not a fan of many games. Or clubs for that matter.
no subject
[She shrugs.] Hey, to each their own. It's still just an idea, so we'll see where it goes...You'd always be welcome if you changed your mind!
--is it - nosy to ask what you like doing, then? To get a feel for what people do after classes?
no subject
I prefer to keep myself busy outside of class with studying and actual work.
I'm sure there are other students who would be interested in your club though... By the way, were you thinking videogames, board games, or some thing else?
no subject
[Serious and studious. Probably dependable, then. Definitely worth befriending.]
Oh, and for the club, mostly non-video stuff. I play cards, myself, but wouldn't turn anyone away with a passion for gaming. It'd actually be best if we got a variety of interests, so we could all learn from each other!

[Querille immediately thinks of poker and blackjack when Malika says cards. While she's not a gambling person, she does like winning]
Maybe I will look into joining your club—if I have a little free time that is. I'm also planning on applying for position on the Student Government Association this year.
no subject
And we'd love to have you, if you've got the time! Even if you don't feel up to joining, stop by to play whenever you'd like.
Assuming things go like both of us plan, that is. But - if I'm allowed to share this - you've got my vote!
[She manages to curb the impulse to wink. That'd be borderline facetious.]
no subject
Thanks for the vote. I'm sure there aren't any rules against knowing who's voting for you, but I certainly won't tell if you won't.
no subject
Then we're all set. Best of luck with that, too.
misunderstanding metaphors 2k12
D'you need to call a mechanic? That sounds like a big problem...
if you're bad with metaphors, dear, you're doomed.
Oh, not to worry, I'm good with machines.
This type tends to just need...a little kick-start....every now and again.
no subject
I'm sorry, I'm getting off topic. You sure you don't need help?
no subject
[Enigmatic smile.]
But thanks for the offer! It's sweet of you. If I ever need anything tinkered with, I guess I know who to call....
no subject
...Sorry, what's your name?
no subject
[She offers a
perfectly manicuredhand.]Malika Ishtar, prospective fifth-year. I'm transferring in, if all goes well.
And you are?
no subject
B- Ryoko Bakura. Nice to meet you!
...Oh, hey, we'll be in the same year!
no subject
Same to you, Ryoko.
And that's fantastic! I hope we're in classes together - international students should learn from each other, after all.
--Japanese, right?
no subject
[Almost nervously,] My accent's not slipping through, is it?
no subject
[She winks.]
Lucky guess, from the possible choices.
no subject
So, uh, where are you from, then? If, uh, you don't mind me asking.
no subject
Not at all - I'm from Egypt.
Which, just between us, isn't nearly as exciting as it sounds. I'll probably be cold the entire time we're at school!
no subject
Well, you'd know better... but my father visits there a lot, and his stories are usually exciting!
no subject
Does he? I haven't done the touristy stuff, it loses something if you live there...
[And something more if you were raised to believe all that is Morally Reprehensible.]
What all's he go for?
no subject
no subject
So he works in museums?! That's really neat....I didn't get out much at home, so I'm afraid I can't recommend anything for him to check out.
[And yet I'm sure I know more about Egyptian history than him. And I can read a dead language fluently. Hah.
Nothing beats feeling smugly superior to a total stranger, nope. Particularly when he has such a sweet, unassuming daughter.]
no subject
no subject
Since I'm excited to go to school with his daughter.
[Grin.]
Seriously, that's really neat. I wish my family traveled more.
