It hadn't. I am a federation captain that...has had to deal with similar situations. And in reference I found out about it. I don't know much beyond the fact it was deemed a failure.
Just the one. The original was destroyed. The Enterprise-A was decomissioned, as was the B. The C and D were destroyed, the former with all hands lost, the later with no hands lost. The D was my originally my ship. We are now on the E.
I never would have expected to hear the words "Kirk" and "Boy Scout" within the same sentence, but with the qualifier of "was no" makes it far more appropriate.
[There is another chuckle]
I am far more by the books, but Kirk is obviously a man of great respect in my time.
I should clarify: He is greatly respected as a leader. It is well known that when he was not in the position of leadership he was not the best of men. Many try to emulate his skill in leadership, but nowhere else.
Not everyone does. It's understandable that men who are of high regard still have people who dislike them, and Kirks mannerisms would make him very prone to this. And in several situations it would be warranted.
Much of the incident is still classified, even in my time. The project itself is known, as are some details on the matter, but much of it is still unter the shroud.
I realize just how relations were strained in your time, so it would be hard to expect it. Worf, that's his name, was the first Klingon to be raised within the Federation. Klingon officers are nigh unheard of, but the fact there is one is telling of the differences.

I didn't realize the project had been declassified.

Sir, I don't recognize your uniform. Are you from a particular division of Starfleet?

I am approximately 80 years in your future. I'm the current captain of the USS Enterprise.

Well, that's certainly...interesting.

[This may be hard to explain]
There have been six ships to hold the name, including Kirks.

How many of them did he destroy?

Kirk was famous for his exploits. Or infamous, depending on ones point of view. While the ship destruction is simlar, he and I are very different.
He had more in common with my first officer than he does me.
