[He really hadn't meant to yell at her like that, and backed off a little.]

You gave everything you had in the fight against Dr. Doom and saved us all. I wanted to try something- anything -to save you, but he wanted to give up on you and bury you in the Avenger's backyard. I wasn't going to give up on you- even if I can't count on you to do the same -and I wasn't going to let some animated tin can stop me from trying.

[magnetlips]

[And for several long moments all Cassie could do was stare at him.]

Nate, I'm- I'm sorry.

[inb4conquering]

[And Nate, conversely, looked away from her.]

Yeah... whatever.

[magnetlips]

I didn't mean to- I'd never want to leave you.

[She took a step closer to him. What Nate did was terrible but she knows what it's like to lose someone you'd do anything for.]

I'm so sorry I left you.

[He still doesn't move, though his expression softens somewhat.]

Like I said, it wasn't your fault.

I think I understand now. That was still a terrible thing to do but- sometimes when you lose someone you love you do terrible things. It doesn't mean you're a bad person.

[But it does mean she will worry more over you from... wherever she ends up.]
