What? Where are you - why do they get to be there? [ When I'm not? He pouts, and his lower lip quivers, even as his jaw is set. There's also small hands reaching for the material of your pant leg, Ned. ]

I am in a city called Anatole. We were all brought there by some kind of a magic... and we all are waiting and hoping you will join us there.

Even Summer, Ghost, Grey Wind, and Lady are there with us.

...so Shaggydog could come, too?

Of course. I would not see you two separated.

And you could meet the dragon called Tamnais. He will one day be large enough to take us flying, he tells me.

[ Oh, there's a flicker of hesitation there. ]

I don't want to meet a dragon. Or fly on one.

Why is that, Rickon? Have you seen a dragon before?

[ Warily and scared ; ]

[Ned leans down a little, placing a hand on Rickon's shoulder.]

Tamnais can speak, just as you and I can speak. He will view you as family... He is just as loyal to me as Shaggydog is to you. He would never hurt you.

[thebaby]

[ ...Okay. Time for the true test of the likability of this "dragon", however. ]

...Would he like Shaggy, too?

I think he would. He gets along with the other direwolves. [At least, now he does. He was not always fond of Grey Wind, but things have settled down between them now.]

[thebaby]

...Okay. [ He's still pretty tentative. He's scared; and a babby. ]

But I do not want to fly on him, Father.

[handofwinter]

You do not have to fly on him if you do not wish it, Rickon. [Rickon is still very young, after all, and he may change his mind later just as easily, especially if his brothers ride the dragon.]

Okay, Father.

[ The dragon'll be like another one of the direwolves. Scared at first, then fond, then completely and totally bonded! ]

[ Okay, a side order of bonded, that is. Shaggydog will forever top in that bonded department. ]

Can we go now?

[As it should be. Ned suspects that Rickon will take to Tamnais once he comes to know him.]

[At the question, Ned nods his head.]

I see no reason why we cannot.

[ Rickon nods - he's tired, and no matter how comforting (and confusing) it has been to see his previously dead father, he wants to see his mother, too - and wordlessly reaches for Ned's hand. ]

[Ned takes Rickon's hand in his much larger one. He would like nothing more to take Rickon back with him, to make their family complete. It is where he belongs, with his family, in this new home they have made.]

[ This is the point in the thread where Demi simultaneously cries tears of joy and locks herself in a tower to eat her own hands in order to prevent immediate apping at Scorched. ]
