[Though to be honest, anywhere in a vaguely normal setting would have her all excited.]

Can't say I've been lookin' too much into the places to know anything about 'em.

Well, maybe you should. There's this one my mun was lookin' at - paradise..paradisey..ah I don't remember - but it's set in a castle with magic and shit, and there's kids there, and a whole butt-tonne of other people as well

I don't know if I'm gonna go, but that sounds way better than Boston, right? And that's just one of the places here!

[ He snorts. ] Just about anyplace would be considered paradise compared to that shithole.

No, but they'd give tours of them on T.V. sometimes. Pretty much all of 'em were outside the country, places too fancy for a guy like me.

You think you'd ever go to one, if you had the chance? No wait, better question - what would you do if you won a load of money. Like, right now. Would you go travelling with it?

Eh, I don't know. Kind of tired of travellin'. I don't much care to see no wonders of the world. [ It's quiet for a moment as Joel considers the question, then: ] But I reckon I'd use it to keep those I care about safe and healthy. Maybe buy 'em something special.

[Thinking about her own answer, she quietly nods in agreement]

I think I'd wanna travel some more..there's still a lot of I wanna see up close, you know?

[Making her tone a little more playful]

I might buy you somethin' nice as well

[ The thought of Ellie passing a gift unto him triggers an eerie sense of stillness, an air almost palpable. Joel quickly averts his gaze from her, thumb moving in to rub at the watch wrapped around his wrist. It, too, had been a gift, from a young girl that meant the world to him. His memories of tragedy hit him all at once, how he lost everything on the same night that he'd received "something nice", and it's all he needs to shut down Ellie's comment. ]

I don't need a thing. You, on the other hand, need to be gettin' a guitar if I ever plan on teaching you.

Like..I don't know..I'd wanna leave the states for a while. See what other countries are like. Plus there's things like seeing a movie in a theatre, going to the zoo- oh! and going to an amusement park, with the big rides and everything? That'd be pretty awesome..

[There's a lot of things she could name, but her sentence trails off when she notices how tense the air seems to have become, even if it only lasts a moment. Glancing up from his watch to his face again, she decides not to pry, instead just smiling again - this time with more sincerity]

Yeah, that's true. Not really sure where to get one, though

[Have a very well dressed man. Like... purple crushed velvet well dressed.]

Apparently, time is all we have here.

[ He heaves a heavy sigh, uttering something under his breath as he scans the environment, looking to the man afterwards. Well, he might as well try and get some information out him, if nothing else. ]

So how long do people usually last around here?

I've been here for close to three years. I've known those who have been here longer, though.

[ He's got places to be and people to look after, after all. ]

For the most part. However, this is more a minor inconvenience than anything. While here, time stands still wherever you are from.

[More honorable than this guy. Considering he kind of made a deal with the Devil.]

[ He has a hard time believing what just came out of your mouth, mister. Time standing still? That doesn't seem possible. Still, it's not like winding up in this place is all that normal either, so he'll accept it... for now. ]

Well, I guess that's comforting.

[ True, Joel thinks, but at least he doesn't have to worry about the safety of those back home anymore. Now it's all about getting back. ]
