Like, really bad. So bad sometimes it makes me want to sleep forever, sleep through every single change there will ever be.

Oh. Yeah, that's pretty bad. I used to kind of be like that. You know, it's like you don't want time to freeze, but you want the same set of circumstances for the rest of your life?

It doesn't even matter whether they're ideal or not, you just want them to stay the same a little while longer...

It sort of beats the point when you ask them not to write something, as they are writing something anyway.

At least she's writing. I've been in the mood for ages, and mine keeps blowing me off. Hasn't picked up a pen for me or mine since she gave the test for chapter...oh, god, what was it? Chapter 22? Or 30? I forget which class she was testing at the time.

Her attention doesn't change anything. It's self-contradictory, but everything stays the same. Stays a-changing.

Her attention affects my entire future. How things go down now reflects how I end up later. And she has ideas for later.

That last bit reminds me of a line from Jekyll & Hyde. Do you know the musical at all?

No. Sorry. But I've read the novella.

Me, too. Before I had to read it for English class, thank goodness. I think Gardner would have ruined it for me if I hadn't. In the musical, though, Jekyll's in the boardroom, trying to convince the governors of the hospital to let him do his experiments on people. And the line he gives them is - and forgive the off-key singing - "Here is a chance to take charge of our fate; Deep down you must know that tomorrow's too late; One rule of life we cannot rearrange; The only thing constant is change. The only thing constant - is change."

The guy who played Jekyll sang it tons better than I can. But the sentiment is similar, I think.
