Yeah, like you say, sometimes, I "don't even go here" and I think I'm already getting a headache.

...Or...that could just be the withdrawal.

But it might be both.

I think I know how you feel.

[He does. Quite a lot. Picture being the only guy who doesn't think facial whiskers are a fashion statement. The only guy who doesn't synthetically dye his skin.]

Sort of a light-headed, tired, hurt-y feeling? Yeah, that'd be it.

That, how can you completely and utterly miss the point about all of this feeling?

...You are way too young to be feeling that way girl. Way too young.

I'm not that young. And it's better than...other feelings I could be having. The withdrawal version of it, anyway. There's probably a lot of feelings I'd rather have than the frustrated one.

Apologies. People back home usually end up with adult responsibilities back-Or did you visit a stylist?

[There's an edge of contempt in that. Stylists. Making people look fifty years younger, pulling at their flesh, adding cat whiskers and eyes while they watch kids die.]

Take that frustration and turn it into something positive. [He leans back] It's like that old saying. That one about lemons and that non-alcoholic drink.

A stylist? Oh, geez, no. I've never been to...anyone.

When life gives you lemons and all that? Yeah, I have a few friends who would leave out the "nonalcoholic" part, but...I'm not old enough to drink yet, so. Plain lemonade it is.

[he laughs] There's nothing wrong with lemonade. Or orangeade. A couple of years ago the capitol released a rasberryade soft drink.

You've got to understand most of the drinks in the capitol include some form of alcohol.

I've...never tasted raspberry before. What's it like?

The capitol? Where's that?

[...And he looks sad] It's kind of tart and sweet like a strawberry but I'm willing to bet if you've never had rasberry...you don't know what strawberry is. Or the genetic...equivalents.

[He shakes his head and then sighs] The capitol is at the center of the twelve districts of the great and glorious country of panem formerly the nation of the United States long may she reign.

That speech is sort of a requirement after awhile. It's basically...Do you like History?

I...know what the flavor is supposed to be. ...For strawberries, at least. I've just...well, I don't eat much...real fruit. It's not really...that available here.

Oh! So...that must be what's happened to the rest of the world! I love history. Everything used to be so much more interesting than it is, now!

[Eyebrow raise] Tarter then strawberries.

[he smiles] Panem's Capitol is Rome. Even the name, Panem. Panem means bread. And The Circuses..

[he pauses] Well, there's all kinds of circuses. I can agree with you though, I think I'd prefer the past to the great and glorious future.

Hm. Tarter.

Oh, I like circuses! ...At least...I think I do. I've never been to one of those, either.

I...don't think there's anything "glorious" about this "future"...

Sharper. But that's just me.

[He raises an eyebrow at her] You look like you're old enough to compete in the local circus. In the games.

[snort] I agree. But you won't catch me saying that in public.

I'd love to try it. I kind of love to try anything, though.

Games? Wait, circuses are competitions? I thought they were...shows.

...What district are you from?

[pause] ...The Hunger Games. The local "circus" that's the term. It's named after the Roman Circuses.

District? I'm from Sanitarium Island.

Oh. I think we, um, misunderstood each other. I thought you meant...like...the big top shows. With clowns and things.

...An Island? [pause] ...that'd make you district four.

[beat] oh. Oh. Nothing like that. We have clowns at parties, you know, it's a style choice but nothing like that. I've heard of those. Old School.

If it's part of a district, I've never heard anyone say so. But...there's probably a lot I don't know.

There's a place on the island called Sanitarium Square. That's where we have our clowns. ...Actually, I guess, all things considered, the whole city is full of them...

...Hm.

[He leans back] I think we might not be from the same place. I don't think you've been to a reaping ever have you?

A reaping? Is that anything like...a repossession?

...In the sense that something is taken from someone else without their express consent.

In the reaping, all of the children of the 12 districts are assembled. A boy and a girl are chosen from each. When we..

[He looks upset about that. It's nothing major. a tic of the face. A twitch of the muscles.]

...When the capitol has twenty four they're put in an arena and compete against one another.

Oh. Oh. No, that's not exactly what I meant.

Like...the Olympics or something?
