You may not see it now, but you will. [ But - ] Don't worry, you are far from mundane. It isn't Oz, but it is certainly an adventure. One you won't have to take alone.

I fear they would not be the first. Though, good mustn't always negate fun. There is always a little mischief to be had with magic, rare as it may be. ( And yet, she says this as sweetly as can be. Not a wicked bone in her body. It's almost nauseating. )

Good and order can be just as wicked as evil and chaos.

Perhaps even more so because it pretends to be perfect.

If you don't mind my saying, one might consider that quite the pessimistic way of thinking. I assure you, I have seen wickedness, and it has taught me many things.

And so have I. Wickedness is the status quo, old beliefs that won't uproot and damage people who look forward.

Some say wickedness is born, others say that it is a choice. Whatever the case, it exists, but it is hardly the more consistent power. So long as wickedness exists, so too shall good. You cannot have darkness without light.

Everyone has a choice. If they choose neither one, nor the other, then they are incredibly brave to stand on their own in a time such as this! There's always a grey area somewhere, just as there will always be a choice. ( Ever the optimist! )

As do you. Though she was younger than you are. More... [hm, hard to explain. Glinda had a sort of Emerald City accent, with all of her doublethink and charming idioms. Affected, of course.] Bubbly. The same impossibly hopeful countenance.

( The words 'impossibly hopeful' do get a smile out of her. ) I see. ( Her expression fades as she recollects. ) For her, I'm afraid it's quite the opposite. She was hopeful once, but the cruelty of others can be a dangerous weapon.

( Ah, ..there's the rub. Perhaps, it would seem, this woman and Theodora are not so different after all. And yet, Glinda sees the light in there - even in something so small as her recalling of Oz. ) I fear that she has. And not without reason. We may have very well been friends, once, were circumstances different, but the wickedness of her sister was poisonous, and with the right push and without someone truly there for her, it spread all too quickly.

[Well, not even her Glinda would dip down into historical revisionism. Elphaba crosses the 'Glinda from a further point in Oz's timeline' theory from her list.

( Glinda shakes her head solemnly. ) It was something she acquired more ... recently. At her sister's hand, she became a product of a broken heart and betrayal. Her choices were made, and now her actions are what shake that trust.
