Of course, I will miss my friends. I will miss Earth. This world and its people have been good to me, and I will never forget that.

And that is why I must see them defended, by any means that are within my power. The Infinity Gems are a threat that we have only begun to understand. If there is any hope of understanding them before these particular wolves are at our gates, I am the one with the best chance.

[Thor smiles. It's a very tired sort of smile. It's been a long few years, and it's only looking to get longer.] Never mind. I am growing accustomed to being far from home.

They say that I am a destroyer? Then let our future foes learn just how much.

[Thor raises both eyebrows, the picture of innocent inquiry. He is long past being ruffled by Loki's barbs, especially ones so minor as these.

To say nothing of the fact that the lingering stab of loss he still feels at the thought of his brother, let alone the sight, is tempered with something else after his encounter with the waters of memory.]

Do I look to be in a gaming mood to you, Loki?

[This does get Thor to draw back a little, as though sharply jabbed physically as well as verbally. But his expression, though wounded, also carries a note of something like pity.]

I love how you talk about using your almighty powerful hammer, it just gets me going. [Sorry about Tony, Thor. He is just annoyed that he couldn't actually lift your hammer, even with his armoured arm.]

Or we could return to discussing your habit of creating metal men with the power to destroy the world.

[Thor can't help but sigh, at this.] I am no longer quite so certain of that. [The Earth alone has needed saving twice in as many years. Thor is happy to do so, of course, but it's still a bit much, even for a guy like him who likes a good fight.]

Seeing me get knocked about by an army of robots was less amusing to you? [He's not denying it. It's just that he and Bruce are cool, now. Berserker rage is hardly something Thor is unfamiliar with.]

( hey, if he's feeling tired, imagine how she feels. not all of them were gods (or god-like equivalents). she could understand why hawkeye was heading home for a while after this one. not that she had a home to go to. )

[It is sometimes a little hard to remember just how fragile most humans are, especially when his most frequent point of reference is either Jane or the Avengers.

But after what Wanda Maximoff showed him, well...Thor doesn't think he'll be forgetting again in a hurry.]

At least you seem to have acquired a few new allies.

What do you think of them, Natasha? [Thor tends to take people as they come and sort out any resulting problems later, which explains a lot of his relationship with his brother. For getting a read on people, he can definitely still defer to the experts.]

I think they had more reason than most to want to help us. But having the same enemy and being allies is not quite the same thing.

[Though he has to swallow back a shudder at the memory of those all-seeing eyes turned blind. Even then, it only serves to strengthen his resolve to see this solved.

That vision won't be Asgard's fate. He won't allow it.] The day when you aren't watching us all will be a grim one indeed, my friend.

Guarding the Bifrost has been my honor and my duty for some four-thousand Midgardian years. I will die before I give up serving Asgard as I do. You need have no fear of that.

My fear is that it may one day come to that, Heimdall. [A lot of the people in his life have been dying, as of late, so Thor hopes he can be forgiven a little anxiety.] Especially if I cannot uncover who is responsible for moving the pieces of the Infinity Gems together, outside the branches of Yggdrassil.

But if we have enough of the same enemies, perhaps it might become the same thing. [Sometimes it was just a matter of lasting from battle to battle. Thor had never been the type to plan too far beyond that.] And I suspect we might, in years to come.

[And yet it is hard to say, so Thor nods his hesitant agreement.] Still. She will need to be tested, that much is undeniable. And I trust you will keep a close eye on her, Natasha.

If it is outside of the nine realms, my sight cannot yet go there. However, for you - and for Asgard and all our sakes - I shall continue to look, to seek answers to the questions you have.

The mortals will not forget you, Thor. How could they? You have shown them how much of a protector and hero you are countless times. Which is why that Scarlet woman's vision of Helish destruction is, as they say, "total bogus."

She's still here. I assume she would have vanished if she didn't want to be found. Sticking around is a step in the right direction.
