Mun. I know you believe I will find this... Inspector Fields familiar because he will remind me of Holmes, that I will like him, but it’s going to hurt. [Elizabeth’s voice is quiet, now, sorrow lacing her words.] It’s going to break my heart. Perhaps the familiarity will be comforting... in time. And perhaps I could even like him. But it will be... painful. [It will be so much more than that. But she refuses to put it into words.]

She would rather not dwell on that particular subject anymore than she has to, so she’s changing it as gracefully as she can manage.] And I know you’re uncertain as to whether the second game you’re considering would be suited to me. But there’s only one way to find out. If we’re going to do this, if you’re going to take me somewhere, I would like to go. [She smiles, but it’s sad.] You did make me a promise, after all.

No one asked my opinion, of course, but I'll give it anyway: if you're going to fall for someone to get over someone else, stop right there. You're doomed to fail. Besides, it isn't fair on the person if you cast someone else's memory onto them...

When did falling for someone else enter the equation? [Elizabeth is quite honestly baffled.] That's not even a possibility. [No. Not at all. Possibly not ever. And certainly not with this Inspector Fields.] And not what either my mun, nor I meant at all.

Friendship, perhaps. As much as is possible between the two of us. He is older than I. Mentorship, more likely. Perhaps curiosity. An effort to help him with cases, should there be any. At least, that’s what my mun thinks. But it doesn’t matter, because he’s most likely to remind me of someone I love. That is why it will be painful. And why it will take a very long time for me to even speak with him without being reminded.

I have no intention of getting over someone by attempting to fall for someone else. I’m content with my feelings as they are, thank you.
