[Predominately, he's overjoyed to see her. Of course he is; for him, it's been months. But another part of him, a smaller part, is frustrated. How can she argue with this?]

There's nothing more important than y- [Wait, people are probably watching this. Ahem.] - doing whatever I can to help end this war, Senator.

[The sad thing is that he really thinks he did a masterful job at covering up here]

[She dips her head just slightly, an acknowledgement of the slip up- a sweet, fond smile gracing her features. For her, it's been just as long- though for quite a few different reasons. And all that she's learned- Well, she can afford to show it, briefly]

There will still be Jedi to serve the Republic, and Senator's as well. [A pause] There are plenty of worlds out there, out of the Republic's reach, ravaged by war and other horror's, with no government, no ability to defend's it's people- and no hope.

Could you truly turn a blind eye to it?

[She's so beautiful it almost hurts him. The way her smile plays on her features... these are the things he lives for. What he continues to fight for.

He doesn't wish to argue. Not now, not when, for so long, that smile has only been present in his mind's eye. This is the culmination of months' worth of longing. So he only offers, calmly-]

I know where my place is. It's with the Jedi, with the Republic - [- with you.] I can't just leave that behind.

[That's not quite an answer, but she also knows it's nearly an impossible one to give. Sometimes, it feels like committing herself to helping the people she's been thrown with is similar to turning a blind eye to the Republic. But to help them is to be able to leave, and she will not ignore them.

She knows better than to push. The man her husband has become is so different from the boy she used to know, and his burdens are many. Contrary to their usual steps in their reunions, it's she who reaches out first. A gentle, unobtrusive hand upon his arm]

It is. You just may not have a choice, Anakin.

[Her presence alone is soothing, always has been, but the hand on his arm has an even more immediate effect. He's not thinking about the fact that, in terms of taking the first steps, it's usually the other way around. He's not even thinking about what a failure in his efforts here could really mean.

For this moment, there's nothing in the universe but the two of them, together.]

I'll do everything in my power to ensure it doesn't come to that. [It's a solemn promise.]

For your sake, I hope it'll be enough.

[It's easier now, lose herself in his presence. To borrow his strength to bolster her own, and to forget the watchful eyes that always seem to be on them, driving them to hidden corners and coded messages.

When she has met their children, when Obi-Wan has already told her he is perfectly aware of her marriage- the damage has already been done. And in this place? There is no Republic, no opinion to cater to. She has felt his loss so keenly, these past months.

After a moment, she takes the final step forward, and drops her head onto his chest, feels the rise and fall of every breath- and struggles to keep her voice even, though it quiets, enough only for him to hear] I've missed you.

[It's strange that she's let down the formalities and the pretenses so easily when they're outside of her apartment, when he's not entirely sure that they're in fact alone. The thought occurs to him, if only briefly, when he feels her head on his chest.

But he's never really been the cautious one in this relationship, and he's not about to start now. There's barely a hesitation before he allows his arms to wrap around her, to pull her in and close that last little bit of distance between them. Now, nothing else truly matters; he can feel the weight of months, years of war and its effects fall from his shoulders. For the first time in what feels like as long as he can remember, he can breathe again.

If things could be like this forever, he thinks, just like this, he'd take it.]

No more than I've missed you, my love.

[The tension in her shoulders that she hadn't fully realized she'd been holding, is released in slow moments as his arms wind around her and tug her in closer. Her fingers curl into the fabric of cloak, so hard her knuckles turn white and bloodless.

It's a subtle fear, in the depth of her subconscious, that the moment she lets go- He'll simply fade away and disappear. She wants to laugh and cry all at once, there's so much he still doesn't know- And yet-]

You sound so certain.

[A fear as deep as that can't be touched by the Force; he only feels the slight shift in her movement, the way her fingers curl into the fabric. Just enough to be noticeable, and just enough to make him tighten his embrace, make him more reluctant to let her go. If it's reassurance she needs, he'll give it to her.

He'll give her anything she needs.]

Because I am certain. [A Charming Smile (TM) crosses his features.] No one can miss another more than I've missed you.

Sometimes, the fact that it's a terrible idea only encourages mundanes. I've found it's best just to try and extract something useful from the experience.

[Because, for him, it hasn't been long since he crash-landed on Coruscant with Obi-Wan and the Chancellor in tow.]

None the worse for wear it seems, but there is much to be done in order to repair the situation in the Senate. I fear you are not the only one with a busy schedule ahead of you.

Sometimes there's no fighting it. [ this is always.. really, really strange and bittersweet and a little painful. ] It doesn't always have to be a negative experience, though.

These games can offer far more than you realize, Ani. Exercise caution - as always - yet do not throw away a potentially positive opportunity.
